Dubh Artach

Another calm day meant another lighthouse. This time it was the remote spot of Dubh Artach, situated 18 miles West of Colonsay. The weather was very calm with a slight swell. The team arrived out there from Oban in just under 2 hours. An incredible place that rises out of the sea from no where. The Stevenson lighthouse was completed and working in 1872, 99 years later it was automated. You can imagine when a large swell is rolling off the Atlantic the whole rock would be engulfed by the sea. Believed the name means the ‘Black Rock’.
